Dear Parents,
We, the administration, would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all your hard work to transition to home-based instruction. It greatly saddened us when Governor Ducey announced that schools would be shut down for the remainder of the school year. The governor's directive to us specifically stated that the school curriculum must continue, i.e. remotely. That being said, we understand that this is as challenging for you as parents as it is for our educators and staff.
Now that our new "reality" has set in, we want to remind you of the supports that we can offer you remotely.
1) Feeling Frustrated? Call us. School offices are open and manned from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. If you have any concerns regarding school, please contact us. Ms. Tawny (928-875-9000) and Ms. Lil (928-875-9050) are available to answer your calls. Classroom teachers are also available to respond to concerns.
2) Technology Not Working? Call us. Mr. Greg Barlow, Mr. Dwain Black, and Ms. Thora Hammon are our technology specialists. We will work with you to troubleshoot the school computers so that you can access the curriculum. If you need to check out a laptop or an Internet hotspot, contact your student's school. We want to ensure that technology does not stop your access.
3) Overwhelmed? Call us. If students are overwhelmed with the coursework and need accommodations, contact your teachers. The administration has asked teachers to make modifications for students when necessary. Students will need to be able to demonstrate their capability on grade-level standards. We want to hear your concerns. Don't hesitate to call us.
4) Don't Know How to Help Your Student? Call us. We have tutoring support at both campuses to assist your students. Title I aides are conducting remote one on one sessions with students at Cottonwood and El Capitan. They can troubleshoot concerns and talk your student through their questions.
5) Need Instructional Supports? Call us. We have library books that can be checked out through Ms. Wilma or Ms. Robin. Please remember that students have access to our online SORA library. Teachers are willing to check out manipulatives and instructional supplies to help your students complete their coursework.
Going forward, many of our plans will be determined by the restrictions placed upon us during this pandemic. Our graduation celebrations and end of year activities may look different. We want to wish you and your family health and happiness – and minimal stress! J Can't wait to open our school doors again.
You have been wonderfully supportive. Again, please let us help if you have any school-related concerns.
Sincerely,
Ms. Carol Timpson
Ms. Shauna Hammon
